Beginning 2017 and a 30 Day Mashup

2016 finished with more Pet Portraits in one month than I have done so far in my year of painting Portraits which was equally exciting and challenging with all the other things that happen in December. It was a very rewarding month painting so many beloved pets!

I have been collecting testimonials to help grow my business and it's been SO awesome to get such wonderful feedback.

We couldn't have been more thrilled with the portrait of our dear Smudge. What we love most is the way Zoe captured her eyes so realistically (they're a bit googly) and her Batman mask on her face. I would recommend Zoe's incredible artistic talents without hesitation to anyone wanting to immortalise their special furry friend. - Matthew and Toby, Williamstown

I completely switched off from work for about 3 weeks after Christmas, and did absolutely nothing. It was great! But I'm now feeling ready for the year ahead.

I'm especially excited for February because I have been invited by Melbourne Water and Edithvale Wetlands Education Centre to be their Artist in Residence for World Wetlands Day. I'll be painting a number of birds that visit the wetlands over three weekends in Feb (5th, 12th and 19th - Sundays 1pm-5pm). Come and check it out. I'll keep you posted about this on my Facebook page.

Just to get the year really going I've decided to take on another 30 Day Challenge too. My last self imposed challenge, Paint My Bird in September/October last year started out as a fun project to paint a few birds on request and let people pay what they liked for them. Intending to only paint a handful of requests over two weeks the project turned into 30 days and the 30 beautiful birds shown below. I got so many requests and it was a really fun way to feel connected to my Facebook community.

I love taking on these challenges because they allow me to test my creativity and stick to making something every day. I love to take requests because it allows me to interact with the people who like what I make, and it means I can also create what they're imagining.

This month (Jan going into Feb) I'll be working on a 30 Day Mashup. I'll be painting one piece each day from your suggestions on this Facebook post. I got a bunch of suggestions so I've decided to group them into themes, sort of: (in no particular order)

  1. Dance, Wild, Movement
  2. Birds
  3. Insects and Natural Things
  4. Magic of the Forest (fairies, unicorns etc)
  5. The things I love
  6. The Ones that didn't fit into a theme

Because I have a bit on this month I'll be releasing these creations in batches of 5 every 5 days over the 30 day challenge. This is for my own sanity, and for your anticipation :-)

While each piece will be available for sale immediately I'll be holding off mailing/delivering any of these creations until after the 30 days because I'm going to do a fun little gallery display of all the work together. More in on that later. You'll be able to purchase the work via Facebook/Paypal during the challenge.

Since you took the time to read this blog, here's Day 1 for you (the rest will be released in 5 days). This is just a little one (A6 sized), and is inspired by the Dancing Freedom class I attend (no, it's not a nude dancing class, I just love the way people show up and move their bodies).

Day 1 will be available for sale on my Facebook Page with the 4 others on Thursday 2nd Feb.

I'd love for you to follow along with the challenge. I'll be using the #Zoes30daymashup on Facebook so feel free to like my page if you want to keep updated.
